2009 Mooring Foundation Scholar

Brandon Floyd

A rising senior at Loyola Blakefield will be attending Georgetown University as a Nursing student in the fall of 2009. He has a 3.0 GPA and has been recognized as a BFF Academic Scholar Athlete for his football and leadership achievements. As a 3 year varsity member of both the football and basketball teams, and 2 year varsity track athlete, Brandon has received various awards. His football team had an undefeated season and was ranked #3 in the state. His contribution as a 6 foot 2 inch wide receiver earned him recognition in being named All-Baltimore Metro First Team, All MIAA A Conference, All County, All Metro 2nd Team and All Big School 2nd Team. He also was named as the Baltimore Catholic League (BCL) Honorable mention as a "3" man for his varsity basketball team which loss in the BCL finals and reached the "Final Four" in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) conference. Most recently Brandon ran and anchored the 4X100 and raced in the 4X400 at the University of Penn (Penn) Carnival Relays for his team.

Brandon is a student leader at his school and in his community. He participates on the Blakefield Chorus, is a Peer Education leader and has volunteered at Associated Catholic Charities, the Harford County Boys and Girls Club and mentored at the Baltimore Lutheran school. He attends the New Hope Baptist church where he is the percussionist and bassist for the choir. Brandon enjoys challenges and has a goal of owning a private Psychiatric practice to address cultural disparities in the community.
